Jack Flash Play
Yesterday there was a play called Jack
Flash and the Giant Beanstalk. My favourite part was when Jack Flash was
climbing the beanstalk. There was a flappy goose that was funny too. The
unusual part was when the bag fell. There was a big bad giant. He said “Fe fi
fo fum, I hear someone,” and the goose said “Oh no! Jack! Hide behind me!”
“OK!” said Jack.
“Oh and act like a big egg!”
“OK.” The giant thought he was a giant but
he was just a man.

On Thursday I went to watch Jack Flash and
the Beanstalk and the characters were very very funny and their play was
amazing. The funniest part was when the bean had to step into the stinky cow
poo. When the Mexican jumping bean grew the beanstalk grew. It looked amazing
the way they made it. It looked kind of real. I liked the way they made the big
red plum. I think it is made out of sponge. The king mouse said to Jack “I want
you to go to the clouds and to tell the giant to stop throwing rubbish on
people. It is not very nice.” The giant
said he thought he was a giant but he wasn’t a giant.
Jesse
Yesterday I went to a show. It was about a
giant throwing his rubbish on people and the funniest bit was when the girl was
standing in the cow poop. Then Jack Flash had to find out who was throwing all the
rubbish and he found it was a man who thought he was a giant. An intruder came.
The goose protected the man.
“What is behind you?” said the giant. The
other man smelt him.
At the end we asked questions.

Visiting Storyteller
The storyteller was musical and he showed
us how to play the instruments. It was funny and I laughed.
Flynn S.
We went to Tui classroom. A Maori person
(storyteller) came. He was really good at playing musical instruments. He read
a book to us about a lolly tree.
Peter
On Thursday I went to the storyteller and
it was amazing. I liked his musical instruments. I liked how he did the sun
with the string and we did a poem. He had a bird bone and he blew into a shell.
He told a story.
Jesse
Today a storyteller came to our school. He
played all his musical instruments for us. He stayed for one hour. The
storyteller’s name was Apirana Taylor. He was a musician, an actor, a painter
and a storyteller. He read us a book with a story called The Lolly Tree. His music
was beautiful. I loved it!
He made a sun out of string. He used string
to tell us a story about a boy and a grandma. Once there was a sun- not a good
sun. The sun was always silly. It went too slowly and too quickly. People got
angry with the sun. So they captured the sun. One of them said “Behave
yourself”.

WW1
In World War 1 they used 303s. They had
leather pouches to put the bullets in. They had a little spoon and the spoon
dropped some oil on a cloth. The cloth cleaned the barrel of the gun. They used
different settings to change the angle of the machine gun with a special
instrument.

Mr Bryant won a trophy for being the best
cadet in Nelson. Mrs Bryant brought some things in. She brought a pocket made
of leather and a dummy cartridge used to practise loading and unloading.

A shell will damage your ears. The big
shell case is 70 centimetres high. It is made of brass. The cardboard case
carried packets of 75 bullets.
Elijah
In World War 1 there were lots of
explosions. The shells had shrapnel inside them. The shell we saw in the classroom was made in
1917. They had to carry 75 bullets for the day.
Freddie
At school our teacher Mrs Bryant brought in
some things from WW1 to show us. I got to see a thing that carried bullets. It
was a cylinder shape. We also got to see a cleaning bottle that the soldiers
used to put oil in to clean their gun. Another thing that we saw was a traffic
light. They used it to see in the dark. It had little bits around the sides so
that it only shone forward because the soldiers did not want any one to see
them. Another thing that we saw were some pouches that had some bullet shells
in them. They carried the pouches on a leather belt. I also got to see a really
big shell made of brass. Another thing that I saw was a shell that was made
into a trophy. At the top of the shell it was curved to make it look fancy. It
was for Mr Bryant for being the best cadet. I learnt a lot about World War One.
It was fun. I like learning about World War One.

Retelling a Story
The
Bantam and the Soldier
Once there was a farmer who lived on a farm
and he had lots of hens on his farm. One of them was a bantam. All of the
bigger hens pecked the bantam. Bertha usually slept outside in the bush. The
farmer let the hens fend for themselves. One day a shell hit the barnyard and
then Bertha got stuck between the branches. Then a soldier came and sat beside
Bertha. Suddenly Arthur saw something moving inside the bush so he carefully
pulled it out. It was Bertha. Suddenly the leader called “Hurry up!” So Arthur
slipped Bertha in his coat. When the soldiers were at war Bertha laid eggs.
When the soldiers were going home the leader said “You need to leave Bertha
here”. So he left Bertha on the grass where poppies were growing.

and the Bantam
One day a bantam lived in the shed. It
collapsed but the small bantam survived. She got stuck in between bushes. Some
soldiers were coming to rest. One of the soldier’s names was Arthur. There was
a noise coming from the bushes and Arthur found a bantam.

The
Bantam and the Soldier
On a sunny day when war was going to happen
a farmer rounded up his animals. He took off leaving the hens behind. Suddenly
the shed collapsed into dusty bricks. Bertha got thrown into thorny branches.
Arthur slipped Bertha in his coat. The captain said “Times up”. They kept on
walking. They walked for miles. The fighting got heavier and heavier. The
soldiers collected grubs and worms. She deserved them because she laid eggs.
They were happy. Arthur said we might be able to survive. Arthur shared the
eggs with the other soldiers.
