caterpillar fungus?”
“No, I didn’t think so.”
Vegetable caterpillar fungus is really hard
to find. But once when Mrs Bryant was out walking with her friend they saw one.
It looked like a stick but it wasn’t. It was a vegetable caterpillar fungus. So
what happened to the caterpillar was the caterpillar was infected by the fungus
and took its body.

In our class we found out that a
caterpillar used to live in this object. But a fungus grew from inside it where
the caterpillar was. Sadly the fungus killed the caterpillar and now the object
is called vegetable caterpillar fungus. The caterpillar is now mummified. You
can find vegetable caterpillar fungus in the North Island too.

Today our teacher Mrs Bryant showed the
class something small and brown. I had no idea what it was. It was skinny at
the bottom and a bit wider at the top. It was very unusual. Then Mrs Bryant
told us that it was a caterpillar that a fungus had eaten. I had a fascinating
morning.
